Literature Text

Long ago, before humans walked the earth there was a evil creature with beautiful pearly skin. This creature loved its own beauty more than anything else in the world and constantly worried about its looks. It was full of never ending greed and envy, and so it stole countless amounts of gems, jewels, and diamonds to decorate itself with, but no matter how many it stole it always wanted more and more.

After many years of watching the sun rise and set the creature became envious and angry that it did now own such a beautiful object. The sun shined more brilliantly than any gem or diamond the creature had ever seen, so he grew more and more greedy. He believed that the sun should belong to him and that no other should be able to gaze upon its beauty but him! The creature decided he would steal the sun from the sky and all the animals of the world to keep for himself.

At night, when the moon shined bright and the sun rested, the creature made a deal with the moon. He told it to stay set for the next month giving the sun no rest between its long days, and in exchange the moon would be able to dominate the sky once the sun was stolen. The moon agreed and for a full month he refused to rise. After days and days of staying afloat in the sky the sun became exhausted. After one week the days became dimmer, after two the sun could barely stay half way up in the sky, and on the third week the sun came crashing down to earth.

Excited and happier than ever the creature rushed to his shining prize, but as he approached his skin began to burn. He screamed out in agony as his boiling skin melted into bloody twists of black flesh. The suns flames blackened his beautiful pearly skin. The creature saw his own hideousness, more visible to the world than ever, and ran deep into the forest to hide his horribly burnt face. Full of shame and sorrow the creature covered its face with a smiling mask and a colorful that mane he still wears to this day. Forever reminding him of his own ugliness.

See, this is why you don't try to steal the sun. Now the moon on the other hand... That's a different story

Good myth!
